Orchard Valley is the perfect place for you to relax, unwind, and put your feet up. There are books and games available to use in the living room but of course, sometimes the best thing ‘to do’ is nothing at all. Have a wine on the deck or a cup of tea while curled up on the cosy couch. For the more adventurous types who want to explore the local area there is plenty to see and do in our town of Otorohanga, as well as the nearby tourist destination of Waitomo and Te Kuiti. Spend some time sampling the local scene, we promise, it will be worth it!

Coffee Time (5 mins)

Less than a five minute drive up the road is Otorohanga township which not only boasts the famous Otorohanga Kiwi House & Native Bird Park but a plethora of places to eat and drink. Make sure you pop into Katie’s Cafe when in town and try her mouthwatering pies and slices. Stroll the main street with its Kiwiana walkway and unique boutique shops. If you’re not up for cooking then takeout from whatever cuisine you desire is available – Indian, Japanese, Fish ‘n Chips – you name it. Better yet, why not dine in? Pop in for a tipple at our local the Thirsty Weta, and if you need supplies there is a Countdown supermarket.

Waitomo (12 mins)

Hop in the car and drive for just 12 minutes and you’ll find yourself in the tourist destination of Waitomo. Known for its glowworm caves the area has so many adventure activities available, including their notorious black water rafting. Of course, if you’re still searching for further relaxation time then head to the Waitomo Day spa and Wellness Centre for a massage on the way home. If you go for an evening excursion make sure you check out the Ruakuri Walk which provides excellent glowworm viewing at night, and follow this up with a delicious dinner at Waitomo’s HuHu Café.

Te Kuiti (20mins)

Slightly further out is the town of Te Kuiti. The town also has some delicious eateries, but our favourite place to visit is Brooke Park where you can explore the expansive established tree parkland with areas of gum and pine plantations, as well as small pockets of native bush. Play a round of Frisbee golf if you’re after a little exercise. While in town visit the old railway station for dinner which is now home to Stoked Eatery. There is also a New World supermarket if you need to stock up on some essentials before you hit the road.

Stay In

Sometimes doing nothing at all is what you really need. Use your time at Orchard Valley to relax, unwind and indulge in our specially designed rural sanctuary. Whether you pick up a book, play a board game, or watch a little Netflix on your device, there will always be something to do. Alternatively switch your phone to silent and take a long soak in our outdoor hot tub while absorbing the peace and quiet of it all.
